Software

After the scanning a point cloud of more than millions of points can be created. In order to achieve a suitable end result it is important that the point cloud is properly processed. The processing depends on the desired result. This can be a cleaned up point cloud, an animation, a 2D plan or a 3D model.

There is a lot of software on the market for processing, visualizing, animating, editing, querying and modeling of point clouds. There are both standalone products and plug-ins for common CAD- and modeling software. Widespread CAD packages such as AutoCAD (Autodesk) and Microstation (Bentley) support various point cloud formats in their latest releases.

Depending on you project or application one or more software are recommended. Almost all packages offer you a free trial of several weeks. There is also a lot of free software available to view point clouds, for example Bentley Pointools View.
